The Cincinnati group has a long history of physics contributions at Belle, and at Belle II the group plays a leading role in operating the iTOP particle identification detector and performing data analysis. The Belle II experiment began running in 2019 and thus far has recorded 500 fb-1 of data. The accelerator has set numerous luminosity records. The experiment plans to record 50 ab-1 of data over the next ten years, about 40 times the amount recorded by the Belle + BaBar “B factory” experiments.

Research in Dr. Guan’s laboratory aims to understand the fundamental principles of cell signaling in the regulation of basic cellular functions in normal cell and developmental processes and to determine how the disruption of normal signaling pathways lead to diseases such as cancer. The successful observational astrophysics candidate will work with Professor Matthew Bayliss. Prof. Bayliss’ group works on a wide range of topics related to gravitational lensing by massive galaxy groups and clusters. For this postdoctoral position we expect the selected candidate to work on multi-wavelength studies of the interstellar medium, stellar populations, and the production and escape of ionizing photons in distant, highly magnified galaxies. The postdoctoral fellow will work as a core member of the Sloan Giant Arcs Survey (SGAS) and LEnsing and Galaxy Growth: Observing Substructures (LEGGOS) collaborations. The postdoctoral fellow will have opportunities to develop new projects in collaboration with Prof. Bayliss, including projects using available data from the James Webb Space Telescope, the Hubble Space Telescope, and the Chandra X-ray Observatory.
