2. Fully Funded PhD Position in human B-cell genome instability and malignant transformation using genetically engineered organoid
Summary of PhD Program:
We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student with an interest in B-cell related diseases. The successful candidate will work on projects focused on B-cell malignancies, with the primary objective of understanding the development and progression of B-cell tumors using a genetically engineered organoid model. By utilizing this immune organoid system in combination with genome editing techniques, the candidate will identify key drivers and map the steps that lead to genome instability and malignant transformation in human B-cells. The role will also involve investigating the impact of viral infections on B-cell lymphomagenesis. This research aims to provide new insights into the mechanisms driving disease onset and progression, ultimately contributing to the development of innovative preventive and therapeutic strategies for B-cell lymphoma patients.

3. 1-2 Fully Funded PhD Position in computational pathology and medical artificial intelligence
Summary of PhD Program:
AI and machine learning (ML) provide new opportunities for precision medicine, where data-driven approaches are applied for improved diagnostics, prognostication and treatment decisions. One of the medical disciplines that are becoming increasingly data-driven is pathology, where digital scanning of tissue samples is becoming a routine practice and provides vast amounts of image data usable as the basis for more efficient and accurate clinical management of diseases like cancer.
Application Deadline: 31.Jan.2025
4. 1-2 Fully Funded PhD Position in cancer epidemiology
Summary of PhD Program:
Globally, around 5% of new cancer cases are attributable to high-risk HPV infections, which include cervical, vulvar, vaginal, penile, anal and oropharyngeal cancers. The objective is to perform an internationally leading research program to guide the prevention and early detection of HPV-related cancers. We will evaluate the effectiveness of HPV vaccination to prevent HPV-related cancers, assess whether HPV vaccination is associated with fertility and reproductive outcomes, and predict the impact of HPV vaccination on the future disease burden of HPV-related cancers. The student will gain experience in both observational studies and mathematical modelling.
Application Deadline: 28.Jan.2025
5. Fully Funded PhD Position in applying DNA as a tool for spatial mapping of transcriptomics and organizing biomolecules
Summary of PhD Program:
We are looking for a doctoral student to take both a computational and experimental approach to work on two aspects of nucleic acid nanotechnology. The student will work as part of a European consortium to develop a self-assembled route to the spatial mapping of transcriptomics based on the concept of DNA microscopy. Here DNA nanotechnology will be used to locally amplify transcripts to build a 3D network of connected transcripts. This will be combined with sequencing to decode the connections of the network to attempt to build a 3D map of transcripts. Secondly, the student will work in collaboration with researchers at the department of medicine to produce DNA origami nanostructures functionalized with patterns of nanobodies binding to the surface proteins of Henipavirus in order to understand their cell entry mechanism.
Application Deadline: 24.Jan.2025
6. Fully Funded PhD Position in Unit of Integrative Epidemiology
Summary of PhD Program:
The doctoral project aims to analyze the use of computed tomography (CT) for patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) in the Stockholm Region, as well as to study the long-term outcomes for these patients. By using machine learning and natural language processing (NLP), the project will categorize and analyze text data from approximately 1.5 million CT scans of the head performed in the Stockholm Region. The goal is to identify how many of these scans were performed due to TBI and to assess the proportion with positive findings.

7. Fully Funded PhD Position in Protein engineering for improved gene editing in immune cells and CNS
Summary of PhD Program:
We are seeking a highly motivated person to join the group of Ass. Prof. Joel Nordin as a Ph.D. student to work on developing novel nanoparticles for targeted delivery of macromolecules. The work will involve the engineering of nanoparticles for targeted delivery to cells and animals. This would involve the development of novel loading systems and optimisation in vitro before in vivo applications in relevant disease models. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of laboratory work in the project and drive the project forward. He/She will furthermore have many opportunities to develop their own projects within the framework of the larger project goals.
Application Deadline: 21.Jan.2025
8. Fully Funded PhD Position in occupational health with a focus on mental illness
Summary of PhD Program:
In this doctoral project, you will have the opportunity to contribute to research on societal problems linked to mental health and the work environment. In your role as a doctoral student, you will investigate work environment factors linked to health and return to work after sick leave due to mental illness. The focus is on personal assistants, an important and often understudied professional group within the Swedish welfare system. In your role, you will participate in different phases of a research project, including planning, collecting and analyzing data and reporting. You will also communicate research results to other researchers and collaborating actors.
Application Deadline: 2025-01-21
9. Fully Funded PhD Position in cancer immunology and biology of innate-like T cells
Summary of PhD Program:
All three classes of lymphocytes that constitute the adaptive immune system of jawed vertebrates – B cells, αβT cells and γδT cells – can be found in tumors. The types of antigens recognized by these lymphocytes, which in many ways determine their functions, are well understood for B cells and αβT cells. In contrast, the principles of antigen recognition by γδT cells, the nature of such antigens and the functions of these cells remain largely elusive – both in general and in the context of cancer. The rules of antigen recognition by γδT cells, and impact of this recognition on their functions remain arguably among the most significant unresolved fundamental questions in immunology.

10. Fully Funded PhD Position in Cognitive Neuroscience
Summary of PhD Program:
The research group led by Prof. Henrik Ehrsson at the Karolinska Institutet has an open 4-year, fully funded PhD position in cognitive neuroscience. Our research focuses on fundamental questions about bodily awareness, such as how we perceive our body as part of ourselves, why we experience a sense of self-location inside our physical bodies, and how we maintain the experience of our bodily self as a unified whole rather than fragmented parts. To explore these questions, we employ a combination of behavioral and neuroimaging methods. Our laboratory specializes in advanced techniques including, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), psychophysics & computational modeling, virtual reality technology, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and electroencephalography (EEG).
