A doctoral student is expected to conduct research and to contribute to the development of knowledge within the discipline. Expectations towards a doctoral student include the capacity to develop independent ideas and communicate research results in oral and written form. Parts of the doctoral programme are carried out in collaboration with the National Graduate School of Historical Studies at Lund University. 5. Fully Funded PhD Position in computational mathematics
Summary of PhD Program:
We will recruit one doctoral student in computational mathematics to work under the supervision of Larisa Beilina https://www.math.chalmers.se/~larisa/. The main purpose of the project is to develop new adaptive non-local numerical methods for solving the multidimensional coefficient inverse problems (MCIP’s) and inverse source problems (IPS’s) in the framework of hyperbolic and parabolic PDE’s. Development of Carleman estimates to prove global uniqueness of reconstructed parameters in MCIP’s and sources in ISP’s is one of the main challenges of the project. New non-local methods for hyperbolic MCIP’s (for wave and Maxwell’s equations) will allow us to construct non-local algorithms to detect skin and breast tumours in real time.

Summary of PhD Program:
The research group STARS (Study of Adolescence Resilience and Stress) conducts research primarily around risk profiles and protective factors regarding mental and physical health in young people. The cohort study follows adolescents from age 13 with follow-up examinations at ages 15, 18, and 23 years, with the latest follow-up currently under planning. The overarching goal of the STARS project is to examine how stress, perceived differently among adolescents with varying family socioeconomic status and immigrant backgrounds, and low resilience to stress during adolescence, contribute to the development of obesity, elevated blood pressure and mental ill-health later in life.

Cancer is one of the most common diseases that affect individuals at all ages and treatment usually includes a combination of therapies, such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Despite improvements in treatments, they are often long-lasting and associated with severe side effects. Hence, it is important to adjust the therapy to each patient at individual level. Today, it is challenging to monitor the treatment efficacy in detail and at an early stage detect tumor relapse. The PhD student will be financed on a VR (Swedish research council) grant. He/she will study the 3D architecture of eukaryotic flagella with (cryo-) electron tomography and single particle analysis. Summary of PhD Program:
The overall goal of the project is to to study the possibilities to develop or improve molecular radiotherapy and targeted drug therapy for cancer patients with tumors overexpressing SSTRs. Studies will be performed in cell lines in vitro and in vivo, as well as ex vivo in patient biopsies. As a PhD-student, you will use methods such as flow cytometry, luminescence reading, western blotting, ELISA, qPCR, and immunohistochemistry. Most patients with localized neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) can be cured with current treatments, but those with metastatic NETs remain difficult to treat.
