The labs research focuses on glucose and lipid metabolism and the involvement of mitochondrial dynamics. Currently, his laboratory is working on (1) defining the molecular mechanisms of metformin’s effects on mitochondrial dynamics and respiration through AMPK activation; (2) investigating mechanisms leading to the paradoxical concurrence of insulin resistance and hepatic steatosis in obesity and type 2 diabetes; and (3) studying the mechanisms responsible for mitochondrial expansion.

The Division of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Arizona is seeking a highly motivated Surgical Research Resident for a 2-year laboratory fellowship.
