1. Fully Funded PhD Position in microstructural analysis of the catalyst layer of polymer electrolyte fuel cells using scattering techniques
Summary of PhD Program:
Your work will focus on the morphological characterization of the porous catalyst layer of polymer electrolyte fuel cells and its composition that is needed to improve cell performance and model validation and development. The porous layers will be characterized by ex-situ and operando Small angle X-ray and Neutron scattering, both with laboratory equipment and at synchrotron and neutron facilities. The project operates within a large European consortium, including academic partners, research institutes and industrial partners, and aims to create and demonstrate one of the most advanced pan-European Future Labs concept in the field of green hydrogen.
Application Deadline: Open Until Filled
2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Ni-based model catalysts for dry methane reforming
Summary of PhD Program:
This project is an exciting opportunity to contribute to an international and interdisciplinary research effort in the field of heterogenous catalysis. Your working place will be at PSI Villigen, but you will closely collaborate with the groups of Stefan Vajda at J. Heyrovsky Institute in Prague and with the group of Jeroen von Bokhoven at ETH Zürich. The project will be carried out taking advantage of cutting-edge x-ray microscopy facilities at the Swiss Light Source and in situ electron microscopy facilities at ScopeM in Zürich.
Application Deadline: 4 October 2024

7. Fully Funded PhD Position
Summary of PhD Program:
Multiphase chemistry and photochemistry are heavily involved in the cycling of important trace gases in the atmosphere. Nitrogen oxides and iodine species are heavily implicated in the ozone budget. Embedded in an interdisciplinary and collaborative project, you will use a set of flow tube experiments in the laboratory, coupled to state of the start trace gas analyzers and mass spectrometry, to obtain insight into the role of transition metals in the photochemical reduction of nitrate and iodate in secondary aerosol proxies, with a special emphasis on the highly concentrated aqueous environments.
Application Deadline: Open Until Filled
8. Fully Funded PhD Position
Summary of PhD Program:
Multiphase chemistry and photochemistry is an important asset of the evolution of aerosol particles (PM) in the atmosphere. Chemical Aging of secondary organic aerosols (SOA) is affecting their impacts on air quality, human health and climate. Embedded in an interdisciplinary and collaborative project, you will use experiments at PSI’s smog chamber facilities, coupled to state of the start mass spectrometry, and X-ray based spectro-microscopy at the Swiss Light Source (SLS) at PSI, to obtain insight into the role of transition metals in the dark and photochemical aging of secondary organic aerosols from different precursors.
Application Deadline: 20 October 2024
