1. Fully Funded PhD Position in Geochemical signatures of fluids in lavas from divergent plate boundaries

Summary of PhD Program:

This doctoral project (DC2) focuses on analyzing fluid geochemical signatures in lavas from active back-arc and ophiolitic environments. The candidate will develop expertise in geochemical analysis of melt and fluid inclusions, integrating new data with existing datasets and databases on in situ fluid trace element analysis. The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in fundamental research in high-temperature geochemistry and petrology, with a particular focus on advancing analytical techniques in geochemistry.

Application Deadline: 31.1.2025

2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Silicic magmas in Precambrian ophiolites & modern divergent plate boundaries

Summary of PhD Program:

This doctoral project (DC4) deals with the characteristics, melt evolution, and fluid fluxes of plagiogranite-ferrogabbro suites in Precambrian ophiolites with comparison to modern counterparts, in pursuit of models for silicic magma formation in oceanic environments through time. The candidate will gain expertise in whole-rock Sr-Nd-Pb-Hf and zircon U-Pb-Hf-O isotope geochemistry as well as fluid inclusion analysis. The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in fundamental research in high-temperature geochemistry and petrology, with a particular focus on advancing analytical techniques in geochemistry.

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in Cell Communication group

Summary of PhD Program:

Vaahtomeri lab is a dynamic young research group composed of cell biologists, biochemists, and developmental biologists. We investigate how cell migration is guided, i.e. how guidance cues are created, and how cells exchange information, such as antigens. In these studies, we use lymphatics as a model system, since lymphatic vessel growth and leukocyte homing to lymph nodes present plenty of opportunities to manipulate and image migrating cells and dynamic cell-cell interactions. Accordingly, much of our research is based on high-end microscopy, especially live imaging of tissue explant and primary cell cultures, and the associated image analysis.

4. Fully Funded PhD Position in Neurobiology / Molecular Cell Biology

Summary of PhD Program:

The research group led by Associate Professor Juha Saarikangas is seeking talented postdoctoral researchers and PhD students. Our team explores how global changes in protein folding and assembly states contribute to spatially organized and adaptive biochemistries in cells using multidisciplinary cutting-edge approaches, including imaging, proteomics, biochemical reconstitutions, and genetic engineering.

Application Deadline: 15.1.2025

5. Fully Funded PhD Position in mathematical modelling of ovarian cancer

Summary of PhD Program:

The growing body of patient-derived data and insights into tumour evolution has given rise to an exciting field focused on developing mathematical models to understand the spatial and dynamic progression of cancer. A particularly interesting direction is the so-called digital twin, which means to mathematically model a patient or patient cohort and use the model to predict response to different treatments. The digital twin approach also addresses one of the major obstacles in collaborative research efforts, i.e., the accessibility of original patient data, which is frequently impeded by legal restrictions, intellectual property concerns, and stringent privacy regulations.
