1. Fully Funded PhD Position in mathematics with specialization in Mathematical Biology

Summary of PhD Program:

The objective of this project is to formulate and analyse non-linear population dynamical models in a way that results in an understanding of the environment that we are living in. The models may include interaction between species like food chains, competition and symbiosis. Epidemiological applications might be included. The models are usually mechanistic but we consider models that based on data, too. We are usually using methods from the theory of dynamical systems and the theory of stochastic processes. The context might decide what kind of analysis are used and in what way methods are combined.

2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Ecology with specialization in Molecular microbiology

Summary of PhD Program:

The ‘deep terrestrial biosphere’ contains a significant portion of the earth’s total biomass and despite existing in ‘extreme slow motion’ due to the highly oligotrophic conditions, these microbes can play a significant role in global nutrient cycles. However, due to its size and the difficulty of obtaining samples, the deep terrestrial biosphere is one of the least understood environments on earth. The research project will investigate the deep biosphere present in terrestrial crystalline rock fracture systems. The project will use ‘multi omics’ to measure growth characteristics along with bioinformatic analyses of DNA/RNA sequencing data to investigate their replication.

Application Deadline: December 3, 2024
