1. Fully Funded PhD Position in Application of Expanding Alloys for Plugging of Wells

Summary of PhD Program:

The PhD Fellow will be affiliated with a research project where we will study the suitability of easily fusible alloys as a material to achieve zonal isolation in wells. Relevant alloys for well applications typically consist of bismuth and tin, with advantageous properties such as a relatively low melting point, as well as measurable volumetric expansion when transitioning from the liquid phase to the solid state. This allows the alloy to be melted in the well by adding heat either electrically or chemically (e.g. using thermite); in liquid form, the material will flow almost like water and can penetrate small leakage channels or fill the cross-section of the well, before it cools over time and solidifies again.

Muscle dysmorphia is a mental disorder characterized by a pathological belief of being insufficiently muscular and is currently classified as a specifier for Body Dysmorphic Disorder. Symptoms of muscle dysmorphia are mainly prevalent among young men and women engaged in strength training (e.g., university students), and the literature has shown that common symptoms of the disorder include a distorted body perception, obsession with muscle mass, size, and shape, anxiety and stress, as well as excessive and compulsive exercise.
