3. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Wellington Laboratory is a large and diverse group that conducts both clinical and preclinical research in the areas of traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. We are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Wellington Laboratory’s clinical fluid biomarker group. The clinical fluid biomarker group uses state of the art technologies to detect a wide variety of protein biomarkers in blood and cerebrospinal fluid. These protein biomarkers help to reflect the complicated dynamics of the brain, thereby enabling their roles as research tools to assist in screening, diagnosis, prognosis, clinical trial design and interpretation.

8. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Wisnovsky & Williams labs (UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences) are inviting applications for a jointly-supervised postdoctoral fellowship position. The fellow will lead a translational research program aimed at mapping and manipulating immune cell glycosylation in the tumor microenvironment. This research project will involve extensive work with syngeneic mouse models, primary human immune cells and clinical samples. The overall goal is to describe and functionally characterize glycosylated antigens on tumor-associated immune cells that can serve as next-generation targets and biomarkers for tumor immunotherapy.

9. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow who will strive to make a meaningful impact on child health by contributing to leading-edge research aimed at improving pain management. In light of the current opioid crisis, there is increased urgency to balance both safety and effectiveness of opioid-based analgesics, while simultaneously limiting the use of opioids. Given the resulting hesitancy associated with prescribing opioids, we are likely undertreating pain in children. This can be particularly devastating in children with high burdens of pain, such as children with cancer, where ongoing pain can interfere with brain development, disrupt behaviour, and increase the risk of chronic pain.

10. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

A postdoctoral fellow is being sought to join Chester Upham’s group of 10 collaborative and welcoming students and postdocs at UBC’s Vancouver campus. We are all working in some way to solve the CO2 problem by developing affordable new and out-of-the-box solutions. Several project options are available, including a new method of producing sustainable aviation fuels. As the lead researcher, you will have the freedom to develop a new catalyst, design a reactor, and/or synthesis and characterization your catalyst using all of our reactor systems and equipment. Your work will seek to understand and control the interaction between reactivity, catalyst surfaces, carbon and reactants. The majority of the work will be experimental and performed in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering’s 3 Heterogeneous Catalysis Labs and the Clean Energy Research Center under Dr. Upham’s supervision.

11. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Professor Simon Donner and the Climate and Coastal Ecosystem Lab at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada are searching for a postdoctoral researcher to participate in interdisciplinary research on ocean extreme events and their effects on coastal ecosystems. The research group conducts work at the intersection of climate and marine science, and informs policy and management at national and international scales.

Coastal ecosystems are at the frontlines of climate change. Marine heatwaves attributed to human-caused climate change have caused mass mortality and phase shifts in coral reefs, kelp forests and other coastal ecosystems. In addition to other areas of climate science and policy research, our group studies the drivers of marine heatwaves and their effects on coral reef and kelp systems at the global scale using large-scale numerical modelling and data analysis, as well as via field research in the equatorial Pacific in collaboration with local partners (e.g., Republic of Kiribati, Galápagos Archipelago).
