10. Fully Funded PhD Position in traffic induced bridge dynamics

Summary of PhD Program:

The goal of this doctoral position is to study the Dynamic Amplification Factor (DAF) and propose a methodology to calibrate it for existing bridges. DAF is used to quantify the dynamic effects in bridges subjected to traffic loads. During this research position, the PhD candidate will develop tools to simulate the passage of vehicles over bridges. For this task the candidate should have good programming skills and thorough understanding of structural dynamics theory. Then, the measurements from an experimental campaign will be used to validate and refine the numerical model of an existing bridge. The simulation tool will then be used to study different loading scenarios, bridge conditions and traffic configurations. The result should be a validated methodology to obtain revised DAF values.
