Summary of PhD Program:
The research group of Dr. Katrin Böttcher is looking for a doctoral researcher to join their effort to understand how mucosal-associated T (MAIT) cells orchestrate local immune responses and contribute to antiviral defense in the liver. Our aim is to develop novel strategies for therapies against hepatitis viruses. To achieve this, we study the relevance of metabolic regulation for human MAIT cell function using modern cell biology approaches alongside immunological techniques. We are looking for a highly motivated, skilled applicant interested in joining our team from July 2024. Applicants should hold a Diploma/Master degree in biology, biotechnology, (veterinary) medicine or a related area, and have a strong background in immunology with experience in molecular/cell biology and immune biology. Summary of PhD Program:
The PhD candidate will initially set-up and monitor acoustic recorders, as well as collect and coordinate field data campaigns on urban green space structural complexity. Further responsibilities involve the analysis of complexity data and of soundscapes using AI tools. Deng’s lab takes an integrated approach to study the interactions between virome, microbiome, and the human host. Summary of PhD Program:
We test novel catalysts for sustainable energy conversion processes such as polymer electrolyte fuel cells or electrolyzers, H2O2 production, or electrochemical CO2 reduction. To do so, the stability of newly developed catalysts is of pressing concern. You will continue our research line around stability assessment of novel catalysts by electrochemical flow cell measurements that will be coupled to on-line analytics (c.f. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41563-019-0555-5). In our Translational Optoacoustics team, we are reaching the next frontiers in label-free optical microscopy and non-invasive biosensing by development and application of mid-infrared optoacoustic imaging and spectroscopy that have a direct impact in the clinics. Optoacoustic sensing combines the high-contrast and high-resolution of optical excitation with the imaging depth of ultrasound detection. Additionally, the high-scalability and multidimensionality of optoacoustic imaging allows its combination with chemical-specific laser excitation that can be applied in living cells, animal models, and humans. The Stiel lab is one of CBI’s 11 inter-disciplinary laboratories and focuses on the development of genetically encoded agents, analysis schemes and applications primarily for optoacoustic and fluorescence imaging. We use protein engineering to develop agents based on our research in photophysics and structure-function relationships.
