Summary of PhD Program:
The changing climate also poses new challenges for wheat breeding and thus for securing our food supply. The high-yielding elite varieties must therefore be adapted to new weather conditions and pathogens as quickly as possible. Big data-based approaches can help to screen the available genetic diversity and identify useful alleles to safeguard our bread wheat against future hazards. However, these advantageous alleles, which often originate from old varieties with low yields, must then be introduced into the elite cultivars.

2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Receptor Structures at the Plant-Microbe Interface

A doctoral student position is available in the Foerderer laboratory in the research project ‘Molecular basis of viral recognition and associated plant signalling’, at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Plant Physiology in Potsdam, Germany. The purpose of the proposed projects is to broaden the scope of the group’s research beyond German domestic law to include other jurisdictions and thus add a component of comparative law. The dissertations are meant to theoretically and empirically explore the relevance and handling of cultural and religious diversity in core private law in the court practice of the respective jurisdictions. Proposals may concern any jurisdiction provided that its suitability is carefully justified and its official language(s) include(s) Dutch, English, French, German, or Spanish. 7. Fully Funded PhD Position in Biochemistry / Biophysics: Enabling Unique Dynamic Molecular Imaging Experiments

The MINFLUX (Balzarotti et al., Science 2017) and MINSTED (Weber et al., Nature Photonics 2021) concepts have unlocked the door to minimally invasive, low-light-level analysis of the structure and dynamics of macromolecules at the nanometer scale (Wirth et al., Science 2023; Schleske et al., PNAS 2024). This includes experiments at 1-nm resolution and with Ångström measurement precision (Sahl et al. Science 2024). The successful candidate will work on the optimization and evaluation of in-vitro and live-cell labeling approaches for unique dynamic molecular imaging strategies.
