The Dewdney Lab at the University of Florida, Citrus Research and Education Center (CREC) is recruiting a postdoctoral research associate for a project that will investigate the primary inoculum source for the conidia of Phyllosticta citricarpa, the causal agent of citrus black spot. Citrus black spot is regulated fungal disease that affects international trade of fresh citrus from the humid subtropical growing regions. Despite being under quarantine since the discovery of the disease in Florida, citrus black spot has continued to spread in the citrus production regions. One of the interesting facets of this pathosystem is that the splash dispersed conidia are reported to have a very short dispersal range, but the disease has spread regardless.
