3. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Applications are invited for post-doctoral positions in the Cosmological Physics and Advanced Computing Group (CPAC) Group in Argonne National Lab. Research at CPAC covers theory, modeling, observations, and experiments targeted at dark energy, dark matter, inflation, and neutrinos. Theory and modeling activities emphasize multi-wavelength survey science, the galaxy-halo connection, cluster cosmology, and simulations. The postdoctoral appointee will develop ultrafast microscale photonics and MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) devices for X-ray optics at synchrotron radiation sources. The idea is to make highly nonlinear MEMS-based oscillators driven by the storage-ring RF signals to fulfill the function of manipulating X-ray pulses. The Accelerator Operations and Physics (AOP) Group of the Accelerator Systems Division (ASD), Advanced Photon Source (APS) is hiring a postdoctoral researcher for a multi-year appointment. The postdoc researcher will work to develop and deploy advanced AI/ML methods for accelerator tuning and control, as well as beam and equipment diagnostics, with applications to the APS injector and the newly-upgraded APS storage ring. The Mathematics and Computer Science Division (MCS) and ALCF are looking for a postdoctoral appointee to perform research and development on performance characterization and optimization of HPC applications on exascale systems (i.e. Aurora). Exascale systems, and Aurora in particular, exhibit complex memory and device topologies including multiple processors, accelerators (GPUs), and memory types (HBM) connected by non-uniform on-node interconnect. How to best map an HPC application (binding) on such topologies, and further place and move data among the topology is still an open research question, usually tackled by application performance specialists by hand.
