The Division of Medical Genetics a post-doctoral associate to join their team in the Department of Pediatrics. The post doc’s research projects will focus on inherited metabolic disorders, specifically lysosomal storage diseases (LSDs) and glycogen storage diseases (GSDs). We have an ongoing observational natural history study to better understand the role of immune modulation as standard of care in patients with severe phenotypes and for evaluation of immune phenotyping and treatment response in children who are diagnosed with Pompe disease via newborn screening. In addition, the postdoc will contribute to ongoing investigations to reclassify variants of uncertain significance associated with LSDs and GSDs.

A postdoctoral Research Associate (computational biology and bioinformatics area) position is open at Duke University School of Medicine in the lab of Dr. Yi Zhang starting Jan 2024 or later. The ideal candidate will develop novel statistical and machine learning methods for multi-omics data (such as bulk and large-scale single-cell RNA sequencing data, spatial transcriptomics, bulk and single-cell multi-omics data, or genetic variants and functional genomics data), and apply the computational methods to integrative genomics data to understand cancer genomics, tumor microenvironment, and immunology. Duke University has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral fellow to research the causes of adverse pregnancy outcomes such as gestational diabetes. The research will focus on identifying new genetic and molecular mechanisms using leading edge high-throughput methods such as CRISPR/Cas9-based genome and epigenome editing. The research would expand on an existing body of work to understand a newly identified hexokinase gene, HKDC1, in human and mouse; and would also investigate additional genes and genetic loci that are much less well studied to date. The position is funded through an NIDDK research grant that investigates the impact of liver HKDC1 and its association with gestational metabolism. The project is led by PI Dr. Tim Reddy and this position would report directly to Dr. Reddy.

The Berger lab at Duke University Medical Center (https://anesthesiology.duke.edu/research/berger-lab) is looking for a talented Postdoctoral Associate with experience in proteomic anal ysis (or similar ‘omics analysis and/or statistical background), to work on our NIH R01-funded project “APOE4-dependent regulation of CSF Comple ment Pathway Activation in the Development of Alzheimer’s Disease”. This project seeks to understand how and why APOE4 increases the risk for Al zheimer’s Disease. In particular, we are interested in the effect of APO E4 allele copy number on CSF complement protein levels and pathway activ ation throughout adult human life, based on our preliminary data that de monstrated lower CSF complement levels as a function of increasing APOE4 allele number in the ADNI consortium proteomics dataset (PMID 33337362) .

The Sarantopoulos Lab is seeking a B-cell enthusiast. We are using primary patient samples and mouse models to understand the role of B cells in anti-leukemia/tumor responses. For over a decade, the lab has studied B cell fate, function and dysfunction after allogeneic stem cell transplantation (SCT). Our studies also aim to identify potential anti-tumor B cell activity in patients who have undergone SCT. We previously identified potential pathological roles for B Cell Receptor (BCR)-activated B cells in chronic GVDH that have led to clinical trials and we now strive to understand anti-tumor B cell responses. The PhD postdoctoral candidate would be a highly motivated immunology trained individual, interested in B cell signaling, B cell activation and B-T cell interaction, and adept at flow cytometry and cell based assays.

Research in the lab focuses on understanding the neural mechanisms that support and enable speech and developing neural speech protheses to restore neurological function. We work with invasive human neural recordings from a range of functional surgery patients (e.g. epilepsy, DBS, tumors) both in the monitoring unit using SEEG and ECoG and in the operating room where we use high density/high channel-count micro-ECoG arrays (up to 1000 channels, ~ 1 mm spacing) in collaboration with other labs. The specific project that the postdoctoral associate will work on will depend on candidate interest and specific areas of expertise. Their duties will include but are not limited to: aiding in experimental design, aiding in data collection, performing neural data analysis, aiding in developing/maintaining data analysis code, writing scientific manuscripts for first authored publications, and helping to mentor graduate, staff, and undergraduate members of the lab.
