2. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Haus Lab in the Department of Horticulture at Michigan State University is hiring a postdoctoral research associate to lead a new organic dry bean research identifying major limitations of organic dry bean production at various stages and developing improved management practices. Organic dry beans are an important source of plant-based iron and protein, but production is limited by a number of environmental stressors. Our projects aim to mitigate production losses using inherent, but poorly understood plant traits.

5. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The long-term goal is to get a holistic understanding of algal metabolism in response to adverse environmental conditions which will aid in improving photosynthetic performance in a changing world. In the process, we will exploit the fast growing and easily modifiable eukaryotic alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii for the characterization of (epi)genetic regulation in a photosynthetic eukaryote, ideally with single cell resolution.

7. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Walker lab at Michigan State University has multiple postdoc researcher positions available in National Science Foundation Funded and Department of Energy projects exploring fluxes of carbon through photosynthesis, central metabolism, and specialized metabolism. The goals of these projects are to 1) develop mechanistic reaction-kinetic models of photorespiration and 2) resolve why photosynthesis is upregulated when flux to aromatic amino acid synthesis is de-regulated.

8. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Ducat lab at Michigan State University has a postdoc position available for conducting primary research related to a National Science Foundation funded project (NSF # 2334681) on engineering mixed microbial communities composed of species of cyanobacteria and heterotrophic fungi. Broadly, the goal of this project is to establish a “synthetic lichen” consisting of a sugar-secreting cyanobacterial species and a filamentous fungal partner. Project goals include – but are not limited to – the following core areas of research: 1) establishing stable microbial communities where the cyanobacterial species supports a filamentous fungal species the secretion of fixed carbon and/or nitrogen metabolites; 2) engineering cross-kingdom exchange of signaling molecules whereby the cyanobacterial species influences the 3-dimensional morphology of the fungal partner; and 3) engineering cross-kingdom exchange of a signaling molecule whereby the fungal partner influences the expression of genes in the cyanobacterium.

9. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

A postdoctoral researcher position is available in our labs at Michigan State University, as part of the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC, www.glbrc.org) under the prestigious Keegstra Program (www.glbrc.org/document/2024-keegstra-program-announcement). We seek a motivated candidate to join the Brandizzi lab (Plant Research), in collaboration with the TerAvest lab (Biochemistry & Molecular Biology) at MSU to engineer plant enzymes responsible for the synthesis of cell wall glucans with the goal to increase the levels of C6 sugars in situ. This project tackles a new challenging area for biopolymer engineering by harnessing cutting-edge predictive approaches for protein engineering.

10. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The team of investigators from Michigan State University, Argonne National Laboratory and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory will work together to acquire a fundamental understanding of how multi-step reaction pathways are confined within and optimized by selectively permeable protein-based shells of Bacterial Microcompartments (BMCs). The CCBC will apply this knowledge to establish BMC shell proteins as building blocks that can be used for confined, hierarchically-ordered biological and synthetic multi-step catalysis for reactions with long-range goals that involve addressing global challenges related to energy and the environment.

12. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

This is part of a NIH funded effort to reveal how plant natural products are transported, and how these small molecules can be applied to human health. The larger mission of the Vermaas laboratory is to study plant processes such as photosynthesis, cell wall biosynthesis, and specialized metabolite transport. These questions are key to solving sustainability challenges. With the ultimate goal of facilitating a robust bioeconomy, the Vermaas lab leverages computational methods such as atomistic or coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations with both classical and machine-learned force fields to study key questions around these topics.

13. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Research will focus on the biology of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), using multidisciplinary approaches, including proteomics, biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology, genomics and advanced live-cell imaging. We are interested in identifying and characterizing proteins necessary for the functional homeostasis of the ER. We are particularly interested in the unfolded protein response (UPR), a conserved signaling pathway that is activated when misfolded proteins accumulate in the ER.
