2. Fully Funded PhD Position in alternative raw materials in chocolate production (simulation and experiment)

Summary of PhD Program:

There is a clear trend to replace traditional chocolate raw materials. This is being reinforced by both the reduction of animal ingredients (e.g. milk powder, clarified butter) in favor of vegan chocolate and the substitution of substances with a bad image (e.g. sucrose from industrial production). The project you will be working on is intended to provide significant scientific advances in understanding the processing properties resulting from this change.

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in computational proteomics (f/m/d) for non-clinical safety assessment with ProteomicsDB

Summary of PhD Program:

ProteomicsDB (https://www.proteomicsdb.org/) is an internationally well-reputed publicly available knowledgebase that provides information about proteins and other bio-molecules. It is designed to integrate data from mass spectrometry-based experiments and other omics to offer comprehensive views of proteomes, especially in the context of perturbations, like drugs. We (https://www.mls.ls.tum.de/en/compms/home/) are currently looking to fill an open position that will be tasked to extend ProteomicsDB to serve as the central database for an EU-funded project aiming to reduce and replace non-human primates in non-clinical safety assessment

4. Fully Funded PhD Position in sustainable solid construction

Summary of PhD Program:

In addition to the classic topics of solid construction, questions about environmentally friendly alternatives and sustainable solid construction are increasingly coming to the fore. The numerous advantages of reinforced concrete are offset in particular by the CO₂ emissions that arise during the production of cement and reinforcing steel. In recent years, promising concepts such as calcined clays, BCSA cements, Celitement, fine grain admixtures and high-tensile fibers have been researched.

Application Deadline: October 20, 2024

5. Fully Funded PhD Position in 4D Topographic Monitoring

Summary of PhD Program:

We are looking for motivated candidates holding a Master degree in geodesy, geoinformatics, geography, geosciences, computer science, (geospatial) data science, or related fields, with experience in remote sens-ing data processing, ideally including laser scanning or photogrammetric data. You should be motivated in independently investigating scientific questions and working in an international research team. Good pro-gramming skills (notably Python) and knowledge of scripting and automation tools are required, as well as interest in Earth surface dynamics and interdisciplinary collaboration with scientists from different geoscien-tific application fields.

7. Fully Funded PhD Position in the field of sustainable concrete structures

Summary of PhD Program:

In addition to the traditional issues of concrete construction, issues of environmental responsibility and sustainability are becoming increasingly important. The many advantages of reinforced concrete are offset by the CO₂ emissions associated with the production of cement and reinforcing steel. In recent years, promising concepts such as calcined clays, BCSA cements, celitement, powdered grain admixtures, and high-strength fibers have been explored. These approaches can be used to significantly reduce emissions while avoiding the limited availability of by-products from energy-intensive industries such as fly ash, granulated blast-furnace slag, or silica fume.

8. Fully Funded PhD Position in Simulation of the thermomechanical behavior of abradable sealing linings in turbomachinery

Summary of PhD Program:

Achieving high levels of efficiency in gas turbines requires minimizing the gap dimensions between the rotor and stator, which are constantly changing during operation. Inadequate control of the gap dimensions often leads to rubbing (friction processes), which can critically damage the rotor and stator, e.g. in the form of wear or cracking. Spraying on abradable sealing coatings offers the opportunity to minimize damage during rubbing processes and reduce gap dimensions.
