1. Fully Funded PhD Position in biomedical research
Summary of PhD Program:
The research in the Kotaja lab (https://kotajalab.utu.fi/) focuses on the mechanisms of RNA regulation during male germ cell differentiation, and their implications on male fertility and on RNA-mediated paternal epigenetic inheritance of acquired conditions such as metabolic disorders. We are mainly using mouse as a model, but also collaborating with human cohort studies to translate our results to human health. The methods include a wide range of histological, bioimaging and molecular biology methods and high throughput small-RNAseq and RNAseq.
Application Deadline: 22 November 2024
2. Fully Funded PhD Position in bioinformatics

3. Fully Funded PhD Position
Summary of PhD Program:
We are seeking for an aspiring individual with strong motivation and skills for research in human in vivo imaging, cognitive and affective neuroscience, or psychiatric imaging. The applicant should also be interested in studying human affective and cognitive functions. The candidate should have a background and a master’s degree in medicine, engineering, computational science, physics, cognitive science, psychology, or related fields, and skills for working with empirical imaging data. Good command of the English language (written and oral) as well as skills for teamwork in a multidisciplinary research group are essential. The applicants are expected to have background or capability to learn using human imaging methods and statistical analysis of biomedical data.
Application Deadline: 14 November 2024
4. Fully Funded PhD Position in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of chemically reacting flows
Summary of PhD Program:
We are looking for a project researcher/doctoral researcher in the field of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of chemically reacting flows to join the research group of assistant professor Armin Wehrfritz in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering. The task is fixed-term and the starting time of the position is 1.12.2024, or as soon as possible according to mutual agreement. The contract duration will be 2 years from the starting date, with the possibility of extension.
Application Deadline: 5th of November, 2024
5. 1-2 Fully Funded PhD Position in machine learning for health data analytics
Summary of PhD Program:
The position is in the “Machine learning for secure multi-hospital data integration” project funded by Research Council of Finland. In the project, we develop multi-modal machine learning approaches to integrating diverse data sources such as data from electronic health records, imaging data and biosignals in order to enable more reliable prediction models especially in the area of cardiovascular diseases. A central focus of the project is in combining data from multiple sources such as hospitals. This leads to unique challenges both regards to privacy (requiring federated learning and privacy guarantees for the models) as well as ensuring that the prediction models generalize well across different hospital rather than overfitting to specific properties of a single source only.
Application Deadline: 4 November, 2024
6. Fully Funded PhD Position in Bioinformatics
Summary of PhD Program:
Turku Medical Bioinformatics Centre https://elolab.utu.fi at Turku Bioscience Centre is looking for a postdoctoral or doctoral researcher to join our projects focusing on identifying molecular factors and their regulatory networks involved in the development of human diseases. Using large-scale omics datasets and advanced computational methods, our goal is to gain deeper understanding of how the human immune system functions and how this understanding could be utilized to develop new treatments for immune-mediated diseases and cancer. The research will utilize statistical and machine learning methods, as well as bioinformatics tools, and will be carried out in close collaboration with biomedical research teams.
Application Deadline: 31 October 2024
