1. Fully Funded PhD Position in Electronic & Electrical Engineering
Summary of PhD Program:
Established in 2012/13, the Swansea and Grenoble (UGA) Institutional Strategic Partnership was one of the first major strategic partnerships between a UK and French university. It is a unique, institutional-wide multi-disciplinary collaboration, which includes joint research and publication, student and staff exchange, joint PhD’sand joint master’s programmes. Over 30 Joint Doctoral Degrees have been developed through the strategic partnership to date, across diverse subject areas, including medicine, engineering and law.
Application Deadline: 16 December 2024
2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Biomedical Engineering
Summary of PhD Program:
Swansea University’s Postgraduate Research Office has also secured central equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) funding which can be used to support postgraduate research scholarships for applicants from under-represented groups. To recognise the Welsh language we have set aside up to four 50% funded scholarships which can match-fund the Coleg Cymraeg’s funding and provide fully funded scholarships, including fees, stipend and RTSG.
Application Deadline: 3 January 2025

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in History, Media, Environmental Studies
Summary of PhD Program:
Candidates must have attained, or must be expected to attain, a first-class honours degree and/or a distinction at master’s level.
Where applicants have multiple master’s degrees, a distinction must be held in the degree that is most relevant to the intended PhD study.
If you are currently studying for a master’s level qualification with an expected award date that is later than 01/10/2025, you should hold a minimum of an upper-second-class (2:1) honours degree.
You should be able to demonstrate a pass with a minimum grade average of at least 70% for your part-one master’s degree modules (the taught aspect of your master’s course rather than a research-focused dissertation) and submit your dissertation by no later than 30/09/2025.
Application Deadline: 3 January 2025
4. Fully Funded PhD Position in Pharmacy
Summary of PhD Program:
This is a Welsh-medium Research Scholarship to start in the 2025/26 academic year funded in full or in part through the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol Research Scholarship Scheme.
5. Fully Funded PhD Position in Artificial Intelligence, Security, IoT
Summary of PhD Program:
Edge devices, integral to the Internet of Things (IoT) and modern smart applications, have increasingly relied on artificial intelligence (AI) for efficient operation and decision-making. However, these AI-based systems are vulnerable to adversarial attacks, which can compromise their functionality and security. This project aims to investigate the vulnerability of machine learning models deployed on edge devices and develop robust adversarial learning techniques to defend against such attacks.
Application Deadline: 13 January 2025
6. Fully Funded PhD Position in Biosciences, Geography and Physics
Summary of PhD Program:
The TELOS collaboration, co-led by researchers at Swansea University and The University of Edinburgh, and with links in other Institutions in the United Kingdom, Taiwan, Korea, Austria and Japan, plays a central role in the study of new gauge theories that have the potential to address many of the STFC challenges in Frontier Physics, such as the origin of dark matter in the universe, and the nature of electroweak symmetry breaking and mass generation in the standard model.

7. Fully Funded PhD Position in AI and Robotics
Summary of PhD Program:
This project explores advanced Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) methodologies for robot control and learning, leveraging state-of-the-art AI techniques to enhance human-robot collaboration. Traditional autonomous robot systems often lack flexibility in dynamic and complex environments, which limits their adaptability and decision-making capabilities. By incorporating HITL mechanisms, this project aims to enable robots to learn from human feedback and improve their performance in real-time.
Application Deadline: 13 January 2025
8. Fully Funded PhD Position in Computer Science
Summary of PhD Program:
The Artificial Intelligence computing for the discovery of the governing knowledge of real world system is important. The proposed research aims to integrate symbolic computing with machine learning models. This project develops Explainable Artificial Intelligence Computing for the knowledge discovery application. This project contributes to cutting-edge research in the field of Artificial Intelligence knowledge discovery computing.
Application Deadline: 13 January 2025
9. Fully Funded PhD Position in Biosciences, Geography and Physics
Summary of PhD Program:
We developed state-of-the-art (open source) software working on GPU- and CPU-based supercomputing architectures, and secured computing resources from the UK-based as well as international supercomuting facilities. The research programme is now entering its mature development phase, and high-precision measurements of new observables have become possible. The candidate will be allocated a research project in lattice field theory, tailored around their scientific skills and ambitions, addressing one or more of the aforementioned challenges in frontier physics.
