This position is part of the EU-funded Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network „Climate-Tectonics Interactions using Big Data informed Models“ (INITIATE, www.initiate-dn.eu/). We are seeking for a candidate to build a Digital Twin of the Corinth Rift by which to unravel conditions responsible for the localization of deformation at present-day. The goal is to link the basin structure to the deeper crustal and mantle configuration, thus elucidating the first-order structural characteristics controlling the thermo-mechanical state of the system. This will be achieved based on an approach linking (geo)data and process simulations.

7. Fully Funded PhD Position in Hydro-mechanic effects of climate changes in North Central Europe

Summary of PhD Program:

This position is part of the EU-funded Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network „Climate-Tectonics Interactions using Big Data informed Models“ (INITIATE, www.initiate-dn.eu/). We are seeking for a candidate to build a Digital Twin of the subsurface of North Central Europe as a base for 3D simulations of coupled thermo-hydraulic-mechanical (THM) processes considering different climate scenarios. The objective is to assess the influence of present and past climate changes on the THM configuration as relevant for availability and preservation of groundwater resources, heat and energy storage, geothermal energy production and deposition of nuclear waste.

8. Fully Funded PhD Position in Smartphone-based data and earthquake ground-shaking prediction

Summary of PhD Program:

Recently smartphone applications have been developed to detect the occurrence of earthquakes and provide an early warning (Earthquake Network (EQN) application, Finazzi, 2016) or to allow smartphone users to react after an earthquake and assess the level of vibrations felt (LastQuake application, Bossu et al., 2018). A collaboration between GFZ (Prof. Fabrice Cotton), the University of Bergamo (Prof. Francesco Finazzi) and EMSC (Euro Mediterranean Seismological Center) has been developed to analyse the datasets resulting from these applications.
