3. Fully Funded PhD Position in biology, with a focus on plant evolutionary biology
Summary of PhD Program:
Human-mediated long-distance dispersal (LDD) is a threat to biodiversity, owing to the invasive success of many alien species. There is evidence, however, to suggest that historical LDD has stimulated diversification, probably by presenting novel opportunities and conditions of ecological release, but this idea needs testing in a phylogenetically replicated manner. For this project you will focus on the large Asteraceae Core Clade (24 000 species), which radiated initially in southern Africa (SA) and globally following repeated LDD to other continents.

Summary of PhD Program:
The applicant should have knowledge of and experience of working with different systems to measure and evaluate matches and training for women’s elite players from a sports physiology perspective. Furthermore, it is meritorious to have experience in collecting, sorting, analyzing and interpreting empirical data in training and match analysis. Experience of research on women’s players in elite football and their load and movement patterns during matches and training is a requirement. Other experience in research in football and physiology is meritorious. It is also meritorious to have experience of roles around elite teams such as physical trainers, analysts or similar for women’s players. We would like to see an applicant with experience/education in training and testing explosiveness for football at an elite level as well as with knowledge of statistics and other scientific methodology.
