1. Fully Funded PhD Position in health data science
Summary of PhD Program:
Climate extremes (e.g. floods, droughts and heatwaves) negatively affect both human and natural systems, having led to over 2 million deaths worldwide over the last 50 years. Climate change increases the frequency and severity of several such events. Building a resilient society to face the health impacts of future climate extremes requires actionable, context-based scenarios. Historically, public health sciences in epidemiological studies have relied on retrospective analyses, which can be inadequate for preparing for unprecedented climatic events. This points to the urgency of developing innovative cross-disciplinary methodology and generating new knowledge to characterize these impacts in a future climate.
Application Deadline: 25.Nov.2024
2. Fully Funded PhD Position in The effect of physical training for patients with cancer
Summary of PhD Program:
Our work focuses on the effect of physical exercise for patients with cancer. The practical work is carried out at the research group’s clinical gym, which is located in the Movement Pleasure Laboratory at New Karolinska University Hospital, Solna. The research group currently consists of 7 people working on various randomized controlled studies in physical training for patients with cancer. The successful PhD student will also work with many international colleagues as the Neo-ACT project is a multicenter study that is ongoing in other countries such as Australia, Germany, Finland etc.

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in Molecular Cardiology
Summary of PhD Program:
We are seeking an enthusiastic person with a strong motivation to pursue doctoral studies in cardiovascular research. The specific aim of the PhD project is to investigate the transmission to the offspring of inflammatory and oxidative stress phenotype in obesity and diabetes by means of a multi-omic approach. This research plan provides the opportunity to perform molecular and cellular biology, physiology and biochemistry research with a strong translational approach ultimately leading to the identification of new targets for therapy.
Application Deadline: 21.Nov.2024
4. Fully Funded PhD Position in computational analysis of splicing
Summary of PhD Program:
The Ziegenhain lab is working on shedding light on central molecular processes in human cells, in particular with regards to the control of alternative splicing of transcribed mRNAs. For this, the lab develops and employs cutting edge single-cell sequencing and computational approaches. The research group is part of the Division of Medical systems bioengineering at the department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics (MBB).
Application Deadline: 17.Nov.2024
5. Fully Funded PhD Position in develop next generation AI/ML driven tools for multi-modal data integration in personalised cardiovascular medicine
Summary of PhD Program:
The prospective PhD candidate will be recruited to the Team Translational Vascular Medicine led by Assoc Prof Ljubica Matic, MSc, PhD, who will also act as the main supervisor for the student. This Team is integrated within the large Vascular Surgery research group, at the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery (MMK), KI, which is dedicated to translational and clinical research on vascular diseases and pathological vascular conditions in general. The Team Translational Vascular Medicine is specialized in molecular mechanisms underlying atherosclerosis and vascular injury. This Team is situated at the BioClinicum building, it belongs also to the Center for Molecular Medicine and gathers several other PhD students and postdocs.
Application Deadline: 15.Nov.2024
6. Fully Funded PhD Position in Translational Cancer Research
Summary of PhD Program:
The goal of the doctoral project is to increase the understanding of molecular vulnerabilities to target thymidine production in colorectal cancer that could result in new personalized treatment options. Central to this is our first-in-class inhibitors of the one-carbon metabolic MTHFD1/MTHFD2 proteins that target thymidine production by a cancer-specific folate trapping mechanism (Bonagas et al. Nat Cancer, 2022; Green et al. Nat Metab, 2023). The doctoral candidate will employ a multidisciplinary approach, integrating molecular biology studies with deep-learning techniques to test the principal hypotheses of the project.
Application Deadline: 13.Nov.2024
