1. Fully Funded PhD Position in Mass Spectrometry Imaging in Food Sciences
Summary of PhD Program:
The project “MULTIANGEL” (co-funded by DFG and ANR) is a collaboration with the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and Sorbonne University, Paris. The goal of this project is a) to further develop the integration of the complementary MALDI-Orbitrap and TOF-SIMS capabilities and b) to extend this combination to new application area, namely cultural heritage studies. This will be exemplified by the characterization of cognac barrels with an age of up to 150 years.
Application Deadline: Open Until Filled
2. Fully Funded PhD Position in turbulence research
Summary of PhD Program:
Turbulence is ubiquitous in nature and technology. Yet, developing theories of turbulence, which ultimately all modeling applications rely on, remains an outstanding scientific challenge. The goal of the EU-funded project UniTED is to combine theory and new computational approaches to tackle this long-standing problem and enhance our fundamental understanding of highly turbulent flows.

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in polymer materials
Summary of PhD Program:
The Chair of Polymeric Materials under the leadership of Professor Holger Ruckdäschel is currently seeking a Research Associate (m/f/d) in thefield of “polymer materials” with the possibility of a doctorate for the field of Resin Systems & Additive Manufacturing within the framework of a publicly funded collaborative project (limited to initially 2 years). In cooperation with a partner institute, the aim is to develop hybrid natural fibre/rCF composites via RTM processes based on sustainable epoxy resin systems. The aim of the project is to demonstrate how complex problems in composite material development can be solved in a time and cost-efficient manner using machine learning when components made from sustainable raw materials are used.
Application Deadline: Open Until Filled
4. Fully Funded PhD Position in fabrication of TMD-based nanostructured materials
Summary of PhD Program:
In project C02 we aim to develop a fundamental understanding of anisotropic heat- and electron transport in nanostructured materials based on 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) by combining experiment and theory. We aim to study the interactions of TMD nanosheets confined in organic matrices such as polymers or larger molecules to gain control over the direction of the heat flow and achieve efficient heat dissipation or insulation. A feedback loop between experiment and theory and close cooperation with our partners performing thermal transport measurements will guide our project to achieve this goal.
Application Deadline: 15 November 2024
5. Fully Funded PhD Position in ionic and electronic transport in battery electrode materials
Summary of PhD Program:
In project B01 we investigate the correlations between the movement of electrons and ions in cathode active materials for Li-ion batteries. The aim is to set up a combined experimental and computational approach, in collaboration with the chair of Physics VII (Prof. Harald Oberhofer). The open position however deals with the experimental aspects of the project. In particular, after the synthesis of positive electrode materials, we will clarify the influence of defects (point defects, interfaces and grain boundaries) on carrier movements, and we will explicitly verify the influence of different levels of confinement (through channels’ dimensionality and finite sized grains) on the linked electron and ion movements.
Application Deadline: 31 October 2024
6. Fully Funded PhD Position in Development of layered cathode materials for Na-ion batteries
Summary of PhD Program:
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student (f/m/d) to join our research group at the chair of Inorganic Active Materials for Electrochemical Energy Storage (Prof. Dr. Matteo Bianchini) in the rapidly advancing field of Na-ion batteries. The focus of this position is the development of novel cathode materials with an emphasis on improving capacity through the manipulation of anionic redox reactions via compositional design and morphology optimization.
Application Deadline: 30 October 2024
