1. Fully Funded PhD Position in X-ray based 3D virtual histopathology for studying metastases evolution in colorectal cancer

Summary of PhD Program:

The PhD research will be on the development and application of novel X-ray imaging based 3D virtual histopathology methods for studying the evolution of metastasis formation in colorectal cancer. In this truly interdisciplinary and multi-center project, the PhD student will work in strong collaboration with other PhD students and researchers from the University of Bern, University of Florence and HES-SO. By extending histopathology imaging to 3D, we aim to analyze and understand better tumor spread mechanisms in colorectal cancer by combining 2D and 3D structural information.

5. Fully Funded PhD Position in Occupant-centric flexibility quantification and dispatch

Summary of PhD Program:

In the framework of MSCA DN CoDEF project, we are looking for a motivated and experienced PhD candidate to perform occupant-centric flexibility analysis. A particular focus lies on the quantification and dispatch of flexibility to support energy system operation. Challenges encompass – among others -, modeling physical systems and stochastic human behaviors. Historical data in the Empa’s NEST demonstrator and its inhouse digital twin will be utilized to quantification and dispatch flexibility. The candidate shall translate his/her research ideas to tackle these challenges, in close collaboration with our interdisciplinary team and external scientific and industry partners. The candidate will support our master students, publish in scientific journals, and participate in conferences.
