1. Fully Funded PhD Position in mass spectrometric measurements and chemical processes of the atmosphere
Summary of PhD Program:
The exchange of gases with liquid or solid cloud droplets has important, yet poorly quantified implications for the chemistry and lifetime of gases in the atmosphere and the formation of aerosol particles, which in turn influence cloud properties. The PhD project focuses on uptake on, chemistry in, and release from cloud particles of various biogenic and inorganic gases during convective updrafts. A wetted-wall flow reactor will be used to mimic gas-phase oxidation reactions, uptake and aqueous-phase reactions.
Application Deadline: 12 August 2024
2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Radiopharmaceutical Sciences
Summary of PhD Program:
The successful candidate will work on a competitive project as part of a well-established research team. A particular focus will be the evaluation and investigation of recently developed and novel ligands for tumor targeting using non-standard radionuclides for imaging and therapy. The project will include the establishment and application of in vitro assays and in vivo tumor models to investigate the theragnostic potential of these novel radioconjugates.
Application Deadline: 31 August 2024

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in the field of membranes for next-generation water electrolysis
Summary of PhD Program:
Your tasks
- Synthesize and characterize catalyst nanoparticles for radical scavenging and gas recombination
- Develop new proton exchange membranes comprising nanoparticles
- Characterize new materials and components in the water electrolysis cell
- Study composition-structure-property relationships of developed materials
- Elaborate prospects and limitations for next-generation water electrolyzers
Application Deadline: 15 August 2024
4. Fully Funded PhD Position in 2D ferromagnetism at room temperature
Summary of PhD Program:
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of 2D ferromagnetism. The project focuses on the discovery of novel ferromagnetic 2D van der Waals materials with enhanced transition temperature. During this research, the work will be split into several stages, as it follows: synthesis and crystal growth of these materials, analysis of the physical properties of the bulk crystals, study of these compounds using neutron diffraction and spectroscopy to clarify the origin of the ferromagnetic phases in these compounds, and the study of the atomically thin 2D crystals using state-of-the-art synchrotron techniques to understand the ferromagnetic properties towards the 2D limit.
Application Deadline: 15 September 2024
5. Fully Funded PhD Position in particle physics research on the CMS experiment
Summary of PhD Program:
In close cooperation with scientists, students and technicians at PSI as well as with collaborating groups your work will focus on
- Data analysis in the field of Higgs physics
- Software development for object and event reconstruction
- Contributions to detector development activities, depending on mutual interest
- Contributions to service work and operations within the CMS collaboration
- Participation in the graduate school and teaching activities at the University of Zurich
Application Deadline: 31 August 2024
6. Fully Funded PhD Position in neutron reference fields for dosimetry and radiation protection
Summary of PhD Program:
Your tasks
- Conduct measurements using various neutron detection techniques to characterize the neutron fields produced by radionuclide sources in the PSI Calibration Laboratory
- Use Monte Carlo simulations to model the neutron fields and to develop new thermal neutron calibration facility
- Develop a method to evaluate the spatial and energy distribution of direct and backscattered neutrons and validate it using known neutron spectra from neutron spectrometric measurements and simulations
Application Deadline: 31 August 2024
