2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Sediment DNA
Summary of PhD Program:
Research on human DNA recovered from sediments is a rapidly developing field. This area has implications for both forensic and ancient DNA research, where recovered DNA could be used for human identifications or to understand past environments and people. However, there is still a lack of understanding of how DNA is preserved in sediments, how to maximize its recovery, and how to adapt computational methods to this metagenomic data. This project will utilize bronze age sediments from England in order to study DNA preservation and recovery from different geological conditions.

5. Fully Funded PhD Position in Meiofauna Hox Gene Evolution and Patterning
Summary of PhD Program:
Many animals occupy the microscopic realm (i.e., the meiofauna), exhibiting a tiny size but still astonishingly complex behaviors and life strategies. How do animals become small? Which mechanisms allow them to adapt to life in the meiofauna? This PhD project will answer these questions by exploring the genomes of meiofauna animals and their larger, closer relatives. Through comparative genomics and transcriptomics during the life stages of selected meiofauna, we will find signatures of miniaturization in these animals affecting their development and metabolism, which might explain their small size and life cycle strategies.
Application Deadline: 13-11-2024
6. Fully Funded PhD Position in public policy and sustainable transition
Summary of PhD Program:
At its core, the objective of GreenTraC is to establish the causal relations between determinants (e.g. political, institutional and technological conditions) of green transition policy and its effects on transition processes. Rather than focusing on single instruments in transition policy, our study objects are packages of policy instruments brought to bear on a particular domain. Effective green transition policy mixes simultaneously promote creation of novel green solutions and phase-out unsustainable solutions. However, this can be politically difficult as it may mobilise opposition from actors applying unsustainable technologies. This points to the importance of policy processes in overcoming opposition from potential losers of policy change.

7. Fully Funded PhD Position in comparative peptidomics and immunoinformatics
Summary of PhD Program:
The overall aim is to advance tools for immunotherapeutic evaluation in dogs with the view that this can benefit dogs as well as improve the translation of research between dogs and humans. A secondary view is to understand the mechanism behind self-resolving canine tumors and to evaluate if this mechanism can be explored for future strategic immunotherapy development across species.
Application Deadline: 03-11-2024
8. Fully Funded PhD Position in Communication
Summary of PhD Program:
Libraries, archives and museums (LAMs) in Denmark, as well as in the rest of the Western world, are in the midst of a major transformation from being understood as neutral cultural institutions to undertaking a more distinct and active position on certain societal issues. Several LAM-institutions are concerned with contributing to a more inclusive society and drawing attention to past injustices. Simultaneously, LAMs are increasingly involved in solving new types of tasks in society, e.g. fighting climate change or engaging in issues of health and well-being. The research project Post-neutrality in Libraries, Archives and Museums examines the ongoing transformation from different perspectives in order to create a conceptual framework that enables society to engage in more productive discussions and evaluations of the practices of cultural institutions.
Application Deadline: 03-11-2024
9. Fully Funded PhD Position in Ice and Climate
Summary of PhD Program:
The ERC Synergy program Green2Ice offers a unique opportunity to perform research within a very interdisciplinary group reaching from ice core drilling in Greenland to developing and applying novel dating techniques (cosmogenic and radiogenic nuclides, OSL/IRSL, modeling of gas and isotope diffusion) from all the Greenland deep ice cores to place constraints on past waxing and waning of the GrIS. Interpretation will include ice sheet modelling with data benchmarking to establish the climatic sensitivity of the Greenland Ice Sheet (GrIS). The research group consists of researchers from the University of Copenhagen, Université libre de Bruxelles in Belgium and the CRPG (CNRS, Université de Lorraine) in France.
Application Deadline: 03-11-2024
10. Fully Funded PhD Position in Environmental Economics
Summary of PhD Program:
The PhD will improve the existing national scale economic model (TargetEconBES) to allow more targeted scenario development for afforestation strategies. This will require integration of new data sources and close interaction with experts from different environmental science domains. It is envisaged, that the project will enhance the methodologies to evaluate alternative land use scenarios and produce an overall analysis of the value of establishing new forests in different places in Denmark. Through spatially explicit environmental economics modelling, the project will integrate data on the current land use, the economic and environmental values of alternative uses, and develop landscape level scenarios to identify where new forests could achieve significant environmental benefits in cost effective ways.

12. Fully Funded PhD Position in extragalactic stellar streams
Summary of PhD Program:
Pearson’s Extragalactic Streams group works on a variety of topics including globular cluster streams in dwarf galaxies, developing stream-finding algorithms to search for streams in new datasets, developing stream fitting tools for extragalactic streams, and predicting the behavior of stellar streams within different dark matter frameworks. The group works at the intersection of theory and observations, and analyzes large-scale cosmological simulations, run stream simulations, while comparing their models to data.
Application Deadline: 01-11-2024
13. Fully Funded PhD Position in Formal Verification
Summary of PhD Program:
Today’s software and hardware systems produce massive amounts of data. Stream processing frameworks are vital tools for software engineers and data scientists to tame this data. They provide convenient programming abstractions that allow their users to express the desired data analysis. From the expressed analysis, they generate a distributed program and deploy it on computing clusters, which enables the massively parallel processing of data. Apache Flink, Apache Spark, and Google Cloud Dataflow are examples of mature stream processing frameworks that are widely used in industry. For thousands of users these frameworks serve as both the programming language and the operating system. Yet, these systems exhibit unreliable and unpredictable behavior, which prohibits their use in scenarios that cannot tolerate errors such as data loss. The goal of the PhD project is to contribute to an ongoing formalization effort using the Isabelle proof assistant towards the first formally verified system for the analysis of big data.
Application Deadline: 31-10-2024
14. Fully Funded PhD Position in Comprehensive Serological Viral Screening
Summary of PhD Program:
A major focus of this work over the coming years will be the use of phage immunoprecipitation sequencing (PhIP-Seq) techniques to screen IMD patient serum samples for previous viral exposure. This work will leverage Denmark’s unique repository of biological patient samples, to shed light on the role of viral exposure in the development of IMD such as inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and psoriasis. Both wet lab methods such as phage display and viromics sequencing along with epidemiological techniques such as registry-based cohort study and pharmaco-epidemiological methods will be utilised to undertake inter-disciplinary exploration of the role of viral infections in the onset of IMD.
